Museum of Maryjki - About us

Museum of Maryjki

Over 400 Maryjkas, contemporary art, Praga tradition, and a place that's hard to confuse with any other museum. We invite you to Ksiuty w środku.

A museum unlike any other

Maryjka as a sign, an image, and a part of our daily lives.

The Museum of Maryjki operates within the Ksiuty w środku gallery at 14 Środkowa Street in Warsaw's Praga-Północ district.

We are building a collection of contemporary depictions of the Mother of God: serious and subversive, traditional and utterly unexpected, painted, sculpted, printed, found, and created specifically for us.

We are interested not only in the religious dimension of Mary's image, but also in her presence in art, popular culture, urban space, and everyday life.

Therefore, objects from completely different worlds can be found side by side here. It is in this encounter that the most interesting story begins.

What's inside?

This is not a museum where you have to maintain deadly seriousness.

We want the collection to evoke curiosity, trigger memories, provoke questions, and be the beginning of a conversation.

Over 400 Maryjki

A collection of contemporary, folk, artistic, and unconventional depictions of Mary. Each has its own story, and the collection is constantly growing.

Praga

We are on Środkowa Street – in a district where courtyard shrines, holy images, and local tradition are still part of the living urban fabric.

Ksiuty w środku

The museum is part of a gallery and an independent cultural space. It hosts exhibitions, concerts, meetings, artistic activities, and events that are not always easy to categorize.

Our collection

We are not looking for one answer to the question of what a Maryjka is. We are collecting different answers.

Ksiuty w środku

The museum is only a part of this place.

Gallery. Museum. Meeting place.

Ksiuty w środku is an independent space in Praga, where visual art meets music, performance, experiment, and local history.

We organize exhibitions, concerts, improvised music meetings, special events, and activities related to Praga and its culture.

We don't want to be a space that is merely "checked off". We want it to be a place where you can enter, stop, talk, return, and find something new every time.

Happening at Ksiuty

The collection is just the beginning.

Środkowa 14 also lives with music, meetings, and events prepared together with artists and friends of this place.

Music

Concerts and improvisation

Intimate concerts, experimental music, electronics, improvisation, and open music meetings.

Art

Exhibitions and artistic activities

We showcase artists, objects, and projects that feel comfortable outside the traditional museum and gallery scheme.

Praga

Local history and contemporaneity

We are interested in Praga as it was, but above all as it is today – with its inhabitants, art, shrines, places, and unique character.
